  1. I don't understand all the hate for Webb. The NFL prognosticators didn't think Webb could handle the jump to the pros as a QB. They projected him as a WR. A WR that runs like Barry Sanders, but couldn't catch or run routes. Personally I think that Webb has played outstanding. Webb made the leap from a small school (UAB). His first year he was stuck running the scout team. This year Ponder received a playbook immediately after being drafted. Webb much later. In the preseason neither was very impressive, but Webb looked better. The final preseason game was to be an open competition to determine McNabb's backup. In reality Ponder was already chosen. Ponder was to play the first half and Webb would play the second half. Ponder played well into the third quarter. WHY? Because the Vikings were looking for that one play they could point to and anoint Ponder the starter. That play never came. When Webb finally entered the game well into the third quarter, he wasn't allowed to throw the ball. He handed off to Caleb King. Ponder receives first string repetitions, while Webb gets stuck on the scout team again. Webb practices that worthless blazer package that doesn't fool anybody. Webb also lines up at receiver. Playing one position in the NFL is tough enough without being jerked all over the place. Yet Webb coming in for Ponder has outplayed him. Webb runs like Barry Sanders, has a stronger arm than Ponder, and more impressive, actually looks to pass first. Considering the big jump to the pros, and lack of meantime reps at QB, what do you expect. Webb's passes have improved greatly with playing time, but has encountered the same problems Ponder has---lack of an O-line. Did you see the play where Webb shrugged Julius Peppers off. Even more impressive was Webb, instead of taking off running, actually set up and threaded the needle between two defenders for a ten yard first down. Quarterback is a position a player usually don't pick up year one. Cam Newton and Andy Dalton are rare exceptions. Both quarterbacks will improve. Imagine what Webb could accomplish with his total focus on the QB position. Imagine what he could do with more meaningful reps. Both these guys look pretty good when they have time. I don't understand why everyone is so critical of a player who performs without a lot of meaningful practice. To recap-- Webb runs like Barry Sanders, stronger arm than Ponder, looks to throw first, poise in the pocket, shows signs of improvement, yet raw and without a lot of meaningful time at the position.
